One Less Thing to Worry About

Adam, a programmer in Poland,  lives by the famous motto by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. This saying guides his business and personal life. So when he saw the simplicity of the Heckler Design OneLessDesk, it was love at first sight.

“I have looked for my perfect desk for years — yes, really, years! And yet, I couldn’t find anything I could use that I loved,” Adam said. “I think it is extremely important that you not just like, but affectionately love objects which surround you daily, so that you feel more comfortable and less stressed.”

Considering he spends hours on end at his desk, it’s understandable he would want something aesthetically pleasing. Good ergonomics is always a plus too. We caught up with Adam to learn more about him and his simplistic approach to design, life and business.

What is your craft and how do you use your desk?

My passion and my work is programming and I love making things simple, elegant and easy to use. I create powerful web hosting tools, that even though they are complex behind the scenes, expose only simplicity, beauty and power to the user. As a result, I spend a big chunk of my day at my desk, so it has to be great.

Can you tell us a bit about you?

I’m in my 50’s living with my wonderful wife of 30 years, Grace, in a small town in Poland where I have been running an international business since 1997. In my free time I help produce open-source projects, play fetch with our dogs and share fun times and memories with close family and friends. All while still trying to find a balance between my work and personal life, which can be difficult when you love what you do!

What color did you go with and why?

While looking at the white walls in my tiny home office for so long, I knew I needed something to brighten up the space. After all, my iPhone case is red, my coffee cup is red, and the case for my Surface Pro is red. Plus, the first OneLessDesk I ever saw was red. I love this color, apparently! So, I went with OneLessOffice in bright red.

What features were important to you in choosing an office setup?

The most important thing to me is that the desk had to look great, it had to be small and it had to be compatible with my computer setup: a MacBook Air with a Thunderbolt Display. All of these qualities are hard to find in an office desk which makes the OneLessOffice that much more unique.

Do you have any organizational tips or cool accessories you can share?

My one piece of organizational advice is to be creative about using the same items for various roles. The less, the better! For example, the Headphone Stand not only looks great on the OneLessDesk as a toy, but it can be used also as ‘paper clip’ or phone stand. When not in use, you can store it on the @Rest which looks great as well! The OneLessStand is excellent not only for your printer, but also as a desk extension for your RAID backup storage. Lastly, the OneLessFile is big and handy enough to store not just files, but also your CyberPower UPS.

Our mantra is “make it simple.” Do you have a way you keep it simple?

Always look at what you could remove, not what you could add. It applies to your office space, to your business activity, to your home (and garage!), and even to your personal life. Keep it simple!
